Project Background & Frequently Asked Questions
Why are renovations needed?
A building feasibility study and a MADPH assessment identified serious infrastructure concerns.
The library presented the Final Report of the Seekonk Library Feasibility Study/Building Assessment to the Select Board on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
This was the culmination of a process that started in May 2023 when funds were appropriated to fund the study.
In September 2023, Tappe Architects was contracted to conduct the study. The Final Report was completed in November 2024. An electronic version is available for online viewing; a hard copy is available for in-library use.
Also available is the proposed Repair/Reconfiguration of the Library as approved by the Select Board at their March 26, 2025 meeting.
On April 3, 2025, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health conducted an Indoor Air Quality Assessment of the library.
When would renovations begin and end?
Designer selection would begin in September 2025. Completion and reopening are projected for early 2027.
How much will this cost the taxpayer?
The average homeowner (based on a home valued at $541,000) will pay approximately $100.55 per year. Repairs costs account for 86.5 % of the project.
