Thursday, February 27 at 3:00 PM – Rube Goldberg Machines: Even if you don’t know that’s what they’re called, you’ve definitely seen them before. A marble rolling down a ramp knocks into a domino, which knocks over a trail of dominos, until the last one falls onto a lever. The lever releases a pulley that activates a switch, and so on, until the entire chain reaction comes to its glorious culmination and achieves the vital, monumental goal of…ringing a tiny brass bell. Throughout history, humans have invented machines to make complicated things easier. But when a more whimsically minded engineer designs a machine to accomplish a simple thing through an unnecessarily complex chain reaction, we call it a Rube Goldberg machine. Join us on Thursday, February 27 at 3:00 PM for a Rube Goldberg Challenge, where we’ll see just how creative and over-the-top we can make our own such machine.
This 1-hour event is free and open to tweens and teens in grades 6 through 12. Registration is required.
